Nyarugenge Extension Water Supply System Project
Access to safe drinking water is a fundamental human right and a key driver of sustainable development. For years, communities in Bugesera District struggled with limited access to clean water, forcing residents—especially women and children—to travel long distances across steep terrain. This daily burden affected school attendance, public health, and economic productivity.
Today, that burden has been lifted. The Nyarugenge Extension Water Supply System Project, supported by WaterAid Rwanda and implemented in partnership with AYATEKE Star Company Ltd, has been successfully completed and inaugurated. Beneficiaries are now enjoying reliable access to clean water and improved sanitation, transforming daily life across the region.
Project Achievements
- Construction of the Nyarugenge Extension Water Supply System, now fully operational
- Installation of three inclusive school latrines at EP Rugando, EP Murambi, and EP Ngenda
- Development of two inclusive health facilities at Gihinga Health Post and Nyarugenge Health Center

Rubona Extension Water Supply System Project
Access to clean and safe water is the foundation of healthy, empowered communities. For years, residents in Rwanda's rural areas—particularly in Kirehe District—faced daily challenges due to limited access to drinking water. Long treks across steep terrain to fetch water consumed valuable time, especially for women and children, and hindered progress in education, health, and economic development.
Today, that burden has been lifted. The Rubona Extension Water Supply System Project, supported by WaterAid Rwanda and implemented in partnership with AYATEKE Star Company Ltd, has been successfully completed and inaugurated. The system is now fully operational, and the population is already enjoying its transformative benefits.

Gashanga–Rusumo Border Water Supply System Project
Access to safe drinking water is vital for healthy communities and sustainable development. In Rwanda, rural populations have long faced challenges due to water scarcity, with families and livestock relying on distant and difficult sources. This burden has limited opportunities for education, health, and economic growth.
Today, that reality has changed for communities in Kirehe District, thanks to the successful completion and inauguration of the Gashanga–Rusumo Border Water Supply System Project. Supported by WaterAid Rwanda and implemented in partnership with AYATEKE Star Company Ltd, this Phase I initiative is now fully operational—and residents are already enjoying its benefits.
The project delivers a reliable water supply system and includes three inclusive latrines at EP Kimeshu, EP Nyagahanga, and EP Kagera. These facilities are designed to serve all students, including those with disabilities, improving hygiene and dignity in schools.
With clean water now flowing and sanitation improved, the community is experiencing a positive shift: reduced time spent fetching water, better school attendance, improved health outcomes, and renewed energy for local development. This milestone aligns with Rwanda's Vision 2050, the National Strategy for Transformation (NST-1), and global goals such as SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
